A YOUNG man killed when the car in which he was travelling collided with a tree in York yesterday has been named by police as Stephen Dowson.
Mr Dowson, 23, of Bootham Square, York, died at York Hospital from multiple injuries suffered when the red Ford Sierra in which he was a front seat passenger crashed in Boroughbridge Road.
Two rear seat passengers, James Martin, 21, of North Street, and Glen Carter, 31, of York, remain in Hull Royal Infirmary today. A hospital spokesperson said Mr Martin was "comfortable" while Mr Carter was "poorly but stable".
The driver, Daniel Baker, 21, of Carr Lane, Acomb, and third rear seat passenger, Portia Jewett, 17, of St Stephen's Square, Acomb, are receiving treatment at York Hospital.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which occurred near the former RR Donnelley site at about 1am yesterday.
