Selby is hoping to showcase its wealth of talent when the town opens an exhibition of the finest work by local artists and sculptors this week.

Beautiful pieces of art work have been careful installed in Selby Abbey and Selby Town Hall.

The aim is to try to give the new European Capital of Culture, Liverpool, a run for its money.

Cawood sculptor Michael Lyons will be the focus of the exhibition, entitled Celebrate! which opens tomorrow and runs until August 8.

Although Michael has exhibited his pieces all over the world, this will be the first time he has shown his abstract metal creations in the district.

Selby Town Hall will be open for viewing from Wednesday until Sunday each week between 10.30am and 6pm, and additional works will be on display at Selby Abbey, including pieces by four other local artists - Ailsa Magnus, Peter Maris, Hamish Marr and John Parkin.
