Students from York are doing their bit to save the world after being given the chance at the three-day Great Yorkshire Show being held in Harrogate this week.
As they got stuck in with the job they found out they had achieved success at another internationally renowned show held earlier this year in London.
The group of horticulture students from Askham Bryan College are showing visitors the future of gardening.
Despite showers on day one, the students went all out with their plans to show how to save water.
The project, fronted by Yorkshire Water and helped by BBC gardening expert William Jenkyns, is to create a water-efficient garden over the three days of the show for the benefit of the visitors.
"Last year students from the college created a great garden. The people wanted to know how we did it, what happened," said tutor Stewart Ward.
"So this year we decided to show them exactly how we did it, by doing it all here during the show.
"Hopefully it will all be finished by Thursday, so visitors can enjoy it in all its glory".
The challenging project has been a great success among the students themselves.
Morag Bain said: "This project is great to be involved in. It's such an interesting subject, people don't realise that gardening is changing, but it is."
"New plants are discovered and the climate is changing. Just look at what we're doing here."
The students have all taken part in the scheme in their spare time, but feel they are not the only ones to have gained from the project.
Daniel Lambert said: "It has been quite an experience for us and I think others have got a lot out of it too.
"People have already been asking how they could make it happen.
"That's the good thing about it, anyone could do this in their own garden."
To complete the celebration, the students yesterday found out they had won a prestigious silver award at Hampton Court Flower Show.
"We were delighted with that" said tutor Mr Ward. "We had only a few weeks to get it ready and to get the silver was amazing. It makes today even more special."
