A CONCERNED York councillor will tonight press his leader for more information on the future of York City Football Club.

Huntington and New Earswick ward councillor Keith Hyman, a Liberal Democrat colleague of council leader Steve Galloway, has tabled a question to the full council about the club's proposed move to Huntington Stadium, near Monk's Cross Shopping Park.

It asks: "Would the leader make a statement on the current position on the occupation of the Huntington Stadium by the York City Football Club."

Coun Hyman said: "I, on behalf of Huntington and New Earswick residents, want to know where we are at the moment. It could potentially have a massive effect on Huntington.

"We want to know what arrangements are being made for getting fans in and out. Football fans like to go for a pint, if they drink near Huntington Stadium they will have to walk through a lot of residential areas.

"Another concern is to find out what consultation has taken place with the retailers at Monk's Cross."

Coun Hyman said ward residents had expressed a number of major concerns when the club's possible move was first mentioned. He said: "The idea is to get some clarification and go from there."

Coun Galloway said the council had been working closely behind the scenes with the club and "other interested parties" for two months.

He said: "I would welcome the opportunity to explain more details about the council's position. There has been much speculation in the media and elsewhere over the last few weeks. We believe this is a critical time for the football club. I will be explaining what I see as the options to bring the matter to a conclusion quickly. I will talk about the criteria that will apply to the site as far as the Football League is concerned."

Tonight's meeting will be held at The Guildhall from 6.35pm.
