THE Duke of York was given a warm welcome in York today as he presented awards to those who have demonstrated outstanding community spirit.
Prince Andrew attended a ceremony at York St John College to commend organisations and individuals from Yorkshire and the Humber as part of the Duke of York's Community Initiative.
He watched presentations by Yorkshire community organisations before presenting the awards and congratulating the audience on the "excellent" community work to come out of the region. The Duke said: "I am always amazed by the different aspects of community work that comes up in front of the judges, and one of the things I want to do today is to get off this stage and go and meet the people around their stands to find out more about what it is that they've been doing.
"Thank you very much indeed for what you have done so far for your communities, and I wish you success for the future."
The Duke went on to tour award winners' displays and meet delegations in the college's Temple Hall.
