IN Our Own Backyards brings the backyard to the forefront tomorrow.
Run by The Stables Project from March to June, this community arts workshop project is culminating in an open backyard trail from Nunnery Lane to South Bank, in York, tomorrow, 10.30am to 4pm, when you have the chance to visit 13 backyards and vote for your favourite special project.
Invited to "make art in, for and inspired by their backyard," adults, children and visiting artists have responded by filling their yards with periscopes, giant ladybirds, paper-wrapped items, raised box beds, plant pots, sculpture, knitted gardens and more besides.
Also, there will be an exhibition from 10am to 4pm at the project's headquarters in Nunmill Street, featuring art on the theme of backyards and a children's miniature garden competition.
At 4pm, in Backyard Theatre, The Stables' youth theatre group presents a play based on the story of the Scarcroft Road area in the post-war years, as recounted by long-term residents.
Competition judging, prizes and celebrations will follow from 4.30-5.30pm at The Stables.
Admission is free.
