TALENTED young mathematicians were commended for their hard work at a ceremony in Fulford.
Students of the Kumon Centre received a record number of gold and silver medals at the ceremony.
Kumon maths was established in Japan and is now taught all over the world as a complement to the maths children do at school.
Jenny Scanlon, who runs the classes, said: "The children won the medals because they have achieved a place on a national advanced student roll which lists all the children who have mastered work beyond the expected level for children of their age.
"These awards are particularly motivating for the children who have worked hard to reach their targets."
