A TASTE of Yorkshire is winging its way over to the Big Apple this week.
A select group of some of Yorkshire's finest food and drink companies is visiting the New York Fancy Food Show to celebrate the best of Yorkshire food.
The seven companies will be given an opportunity to reach the inside track for the lucrative American market, meeting buyers, importers and distributors of speciality foods and drinks.
Lorraine Ellison, of the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, who is co-ordinating the visit, acknowledged that image and tradition were a major factor behind Yorkshire successes in the American market. She said: "People the world over tend to associate Yorkshire with traditional values, breathtaking scenery and wholesome, natural products.
"The US, with its love of all things British, is one of the most receptive markets for food and drink produced in Yorkshire and it is fantastic to see some of the region's best known companies taking the opportunities in the US so seriously."
The visit is backed by Yorkshire Forward and the Yorkshire Regional Food Group, with local contributors including Harrogate tea specialists Taylors and John Farrah Toffee.
