SPINNER Dan Broadbent took five wickets for five runs in 3.4 overs as York consolidated their lead in the Oxbridge Yorkshire ECB County Premier Cricket League by taking maximum points at bottom club Rotherham on Saturday.
York lost the toss, batted first and Simon Mason was dismissed without a run on the board. Stephen Piercy dug in with Rob Flack against accurate bowling on a helpful track. When Flack departed York had scored only 62 runs off 23 overs.
Marcus Wood helped the total along, but after he was run out York slumped to 134-5, with Piercy losing his stumps to Mike Thompson after having passed 400 runs for the season.
Dan Broadbent and Will Warne rescued the situation and Jeetan Patel went on to the attack to give York a respectable total of 221-9.
After Flack claimed an early victim, Rotherham showed determined, if slow, resistance before Tom Pringle broke the second-wicket partnership at 55.
Rotherham then collapsed in a dozen overs to the off-spin of Patel and Broadbent to give York a comprehensive 130-run victory.
