A MAN was thrown through the windscreen of his car and had to be cut free from a hedge following an accident on the A64.
The accident took place at 12.20am when the driver lost control of his Honda Accord in wet conditions on the A64 westbound between The Aagrah restaurant and Tadcaster.
The car went into a ditch and the driver was thrown through the windscreen and landed in a hedge six feet away.
Fire crews from York and Tadcaster attended and used cutting equipment to free the man and place him on a spine board so he could be moved to York Hospital.
His passenger, also male, was unhurt.
A spokesman at Tadcaster Fire Station said: "No other cars were involved in the incident, but the road was really greasy due to the wet weather."
Fire and Rescue Service personnel eventually left the scene at 2am.
