SHE has fought cancer for six years and is called a "little miracle" by staff at her clinic in York.
Now Peggy Redman, 78, of Patterdale Drive, Rawcliffe, has been voted Mum of the Year by staff at a York restaurant, the Tanglewood Brewer's Fayre in Malton Road.
Peggy was nominated by her daughter Linda Mansell, when she heard about the Brewer's Fayre contest, which aims to reward the outstanding achievements of mums across the UK.
"She is so brave, especially after fighting cancer for the last six years," said Linda, 53, of The Vale, Skelton.
"She doesn't bother about herself, just others. At 4ft 10in, the clinic call her a little miracle.
"She's outlived everybody at the cancer care clinic at York Hospital and she's still going strong.
"She's had two really big operations and all this chemotherapy and she's just kept going, never complaining. She always puts us first and never worries about herself.
"My daughter Amanda's just had a baby daughter, Amy, so mum's become a great grandmother - we never thought that would happen."
Tanglewood manager Andy Martin said: "After sifting through the stacks of entries, we felt our supermum, Peggy, fitted the bill perfectly.
"She thoroughly deserves to be voted the Tanglewood Mum of the Year."
Peggy will enjoy a three-course meal for four at the Tanglewood, and now goes on to enter a national final with a chance to win a year's supply of family meals.
