TWO local football clubs are feeling the effects of the loss of the Civil Service sports ground on Boroughbridge Road, York.

Leeper Hare York and District side Post Office have been left homeless after the sale of the ground was announced at the end of last season and face folding unless they can find a new home.

Sunday Morning League side Enterprise have bridged the ground issue, but they are now facing a bill of around £800 to provide goal-posts to play on Knavesmire.

The Postmen, members of the York League for over 40 years, have so far been unable to find a new venue, with changing rooms, to stage their home games for next season. And time is running out for the club as the league must have the matter resolved by the middle of July so they can finalise fixtures and the league handbook.

Office run one side and are in urgent need of a ground with changing rooms for alternate Saturdays.

Mal Chappell, the current manager and secretary, who has been with the club for 36 years, has been desperately seeking alternative facilities. If anyone can offer Post Office a lifeline could they please contact Chappell on (01904) 630327.

Meanwhile, Enterprise FC are desperate for goals.

However, its not an ace striker the division five outfit are chasing in the closed season but goal-posts.

Following the loss of the Boroughbridge Road site, Enterprise are faced with the prospect of having nowhere to play next season.

The club, which has been in existence for around 30 years, is hopeful of arranging to play on Knavesmire but the proposed move has brought its own problems.

The club does not own any goal-posts and it is estimated it will cost Enterprise up to £800 to buy new ones.

Secretary David Turner is appealing for a generous benefactor to come forward to help the club.

Alternatively, he would like to hear from any fellow clubs who are looking to sell or rent some posts.

Any club or individual able to offer assistance can contact Turner on (01904) 455887 or (07968) 243120.
