It appears John Galvin not only lost his seat at the local election, he also lost his memory. He is now very concerned that the city is being sold short on swimming (Letters, June 24).
Is this the same Mr Galvin who abstained from voting on the future of the pools on June 14, 2000 and who remained non-committal on this issue - not forgetting his unprovoked public attack on the swimming campaigners (Radio York, June 15, 2000)? This display of double standards unfairly gives all politicians a bad name.
The Liberal Democrats are attempting to offer people a choice on the type of swimming facility available at the Barbican, so the public can decide on how the capital is spread among the three publicly-operated pools.
They have also listened to the users of the Yearsley pool with their pre-election commitment to retain, and hopefully refurbish, the much-loved 50-yard-long facility.
We shall, of course, monitor the situation, to ensure that they don't suffer the same memory lapse as Mr Galvin.
