ANYONE in York and North Yorkshire wanting to get to grips with the latest developments in the waste management industry is being invited to an open day.
Yorwaste is opening the doors of its Harewood Whin and Hessay facilities to members of the public next Friday.
At Harewood Whin, members of the public will be able to see how greenwaste is composted and construction and wood waste is recycled. They will also see how a landfill operates and how electricity is generated from landfill gas.
Yorwaste's Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) will be the focus of attention at Hessay and visitors will be able to see how the material they put on their doorstep for recycling, such as paper, glass, cans, are sorted and bulked.
People will be given a guided tour of both sites and free transport will be provided to ferry them to and from the two sites.
Yorwaste personnel will also be on hand to answer questions.
Yorwaste's Operations Manager, Kevin Quigley, said: "The day is all about keeping the public of North Yorkshire and City of York informed about the new developments in waste management."
The open day will take place between 10am and 4pm, and people should meet at Harewood Whin first.
Light refreshments will be provided.
