TWENTY-FIVE years of teaching was celebrated at a York school with the planting of a new oak tree.
Headlands Primary School, in Haxby, marked its quarter century with the tree ceremony - planted because the school, which has 260 pupils, is on Oak Tree Lane.
Staff and students blew out the candles on a giant birthday cake and teachers took each other on in a special afternoon netball tournament.
Head teacher Mike Schofield said: "It was a great day. The weather was fabulous and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
"It was really relaxed and fun, so roll on the next 25 years."
