THE body of a former engineer was found in his bed about a week after he is believed to have died, an inquest heard.
Philip Martyn Bowles, of Queen Anne's Road, York, was found by police after social services were unable to contact him for a week.
The 46-year-old had suffered from weakened bones and clogged arteries.
He was known to be a chronic alcoholic, for which his general practitioner had tried to treat him, but he had refused help.
His body was found with blood levels marginally above the legal limit for driving.
He was found in bed in his flat on August 19 last year, and was believed to have died about a week before.
The body had decomposed to the extent that the pathologist was unable to judge the cause of death.
Deputy coroner Jonathan Leach recorded an open verdict.
