NOWADAYS, I can often be blissfully ignorant of the mediocrity that is the singles chart - but Danger! High Voltage! was the sledgehammer that cracked the eggshell of my ignorance at the start of this year.
A scintillating piece of disco metal (if ever there were such a thing), it's probably the one song I've hummed most all year. A duet with Jack White of The White Stripes, it boasted all the necessary credentials of cool - enough to make sure Electric Six, the mutant lovechild of Tom Jones and Sigue Sigue Sputnik, got noticed. This is not a serious album, but it's more fun than a pack of hyenas on laughing gas. All hail Electric Six - the perfect antidote to po-faced rock.
