A VIOLENT thunderstorm with rain, lightning and hailstones put a stop to the Edith Keech Two-Wood Trophy on Sunday June 8, but there were no such problems when the semi-final games finally took place a week later.
In one of the semi-finals, Dorothy Turpin (Minster) and Betty Richardson (Bert Keech) had played ten ends and the score was 9-5 to Richardson when they had to leave the green.
The other semi-final was between Eirlys Davies (Harrogate) and Muriel Dawson (Ben Rhydding) and they had played 11 ends with the score 11-6 to Davies.
When the games were continued they were closely contested with Dawson drawing level with Davies at 11-11, but with the score at 13-14 to Davies, she scored one shot to give her a place in the final.
In the games between Richardson and Turpin, the difference stayed pretty much the same with the final score being 16-10 in favour of Richardson who moved to the final.
The final between Richardson and Davies was played over 19 ends with Davies being ahead all the time, from 9-3 to 13-7 and she reached the required 15 with Davies on ten.
Andrea Gilbert, a life member of the Bert Keech Club, presented the trophies to the winner and runner-up.
