A SPECTACULAR day of racing will see punters getting out of the stalls quickly to support this year's Evening Press Sunday Raceday at York Racecourse.

This year's event, held on September 7, will be the fourth time the award-winning Evening Press has sponsored the successful afternoon.

Thousands of people have flocked to Knavesmire over the last three years to enjoy the event - making it a popular day out for the whole family.

More than 20,000 turned out 12 months ago, to establish the Evening Press Sunday Raceday as an important meeting on the horse-racing calendar.

September's extravaganza, which forms part of York Racecourse's Second Summer meeting, promises to be no exception, with a day of great entertainment guaranteed both on and off the track.

Staff at the racecourse are anticipating another big crowd in September, said marketing manager James Brennan. "People are already telephoning asking when the Sunday Raceday is happening this year," he said. "We are looking forward to the special atmosphere that the Sunday brings to Knavesmire. As ever, there will be a range of competitive races linked with some broader entertainment, recognising the slightly different nature of the crowd. It will be a great day out."

Gates open at 11.15am with the first of seven races off at 2.05pm. This year's final race will be at 5.20pm.

A total purse of £88,000 in prize money is set to attract yet another quality field to York. For ticket details phone the racecourse on 01904 620911.
