OAKLANDS School in York has achieved one of almost 300 Artsmark Silver awards given out to schools across the country.
More than 750 schools received an Artsmark award, which has three levels - Artsmark, Artsmark Silver and Artsmark Gold. The awards from the Arts Council recognises schools that provide all forms of art, from drama to music and dance to sculpture.
The head teacher of Oaklands, Michelle Burns, said: "I am delighted that the Arts Council has recognised Oaklands' exciting, progressive and balanced arts programme which offers a variety of experiences and opportunities for all of our young people."
The school produces its own magazine, and students have also created sculptures that are on display in the canteen.
They have dance performances and recently completed a music project with teachers from Ghana. Gavin Cowley, the deputy head, said: "I am so pleased that the staff here have received more recognition for the high-quality curriculum that they provide and their commitment to the arts.
"This award is complementary to our designation as a Sports College, as dance plays an important role in our development plans."
