AN OLD courthouse is to be transformed into a new customer service centre to help an East Yorkshire town.
Market Weighton's old Magistrates Court will house the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's new Customer Service Centre. Part of the court will be converted to create two video conference rooms, a Police inquiry desk, a town meeting room and an interview room.
Councillors David Rudd, Richard Clubley and Edward Burton have met East Riding officers to discuss the plans for the new centre.
In a joint statement they said: "We welcome this most necessary facility for the residents of Market Weighton and the surrounding villages. At long last Market Weighton will have its own Customer Service Centre and residents will no longer have to travel to Burnby Hall in Pocklington as they do at present."
