Wigginton racing cyclist Phil Brighton bounced back after a disappointing midweek road race at Wakefield to be the top Yorkshire rider in the Sloan Trophy road race at Ponteland, near Newcastle.
The York sprinter was totally marked out of a top finish in a very negative race at Wakefield, but he made amends in the North East over an undulating 80-mile course which soon whittled down the 60-rider field down.
He finished fourth after three riders had escaped the bunch with 12 miles to go.
Other York riders who finished in the main bunch were Matt Lunn and Colin Sinclair (Racescene), Rob Osman, Andy Tannahill, Arther Clune and Nick Scull (Clifton CC) and Simon Nicholls (Knaresborough KRT).
