THE organisers of a charity football tournament that a young York transplant hero played in have given thanks to everyone who supported it.
Kerry Holder was one of the organisers of the five-a-side tournament, held in aid of the St James's Hospital Childrens' Transplant Games, in which Kerry's cousin, Paul Bradley, played.
Paul, 12, endured a mammoth 15-hour liver and kidney transplant operation in 1999.
But he has since bounced back to full fitness, joined a team in the junior section of last Sunday's tournament - and won.
Tournament organisers had also held a bucket collection in town, and family friend Matt Elliot went on a sponsored run from York to Selby.
The three events raised a total of almost £1,600.
Kerry said: "We are really pleased with the total. We were aiming to raise £1,000 so to get as much as we did was brilliant.
"Everyone enjoyed themselves on the day, there was a really good atmosphere, and Paul was really happy his team won. We want to thank anyone who supported us or helped out in any way."
The transplant games take place every year in support of transplant departments and for the enjoyment of the young patients.
