GLORY was bestowed on youngsters from St Oswald's CE Primary School after winning the battle for Marston Moor.
The Fulford school youngsters were crowned rugby kings and queens after beating their counterparts from St Olave's by four tries to two in the final of the Marston Moor Cup.
The competition, now in its second year, formed part of the International York 9s Tournament and was organised by a partnership involving the festival's organisers, the City of York Council and the York City Knights.
Nine teams took part in the tag-rugby tournament with some excellent rugby being played.
Joining St Oswald's and St Olave's in the last four were youngsters from Our Lady's RC Primary and Westfield Primary, with the team from Tang Hall unfortunate to miss out on a semi-final berth.
In the first semi-final, St Olave's saw off the challenge of Westfield and in the second St Oswald's beat Our Lady's, both games being keenly contested matches.
St Oswald's only claimed their final spot after winning by the odd try in five, and despite a man of the match performance from Our Lady's player Joel Johnson.
The final was played as a curtain raiser to the main final of the York 9s, with St Oswald's winning courtesy of tries from Oliver Shipley, Lee Potter, Joe Hudson and Murray McCusker.
Athletics
The York/Selby Schools Individual Athletics Championships Finals will be held at Huntington Stadium on Thursday, June 26 starting at 1.45pm.
Each school with ten or more competitors is required to provide at least two competent adult officials, schools with nine or less competitors are required to provide one official.
All competitors should wear their respective school numbers. Track competitors should wear numbers front and back.
Field competitors need only wear a number on the front.
Competitors may enter a maximum of one track event plus one field event plus one relay.
If, in the opinion of the organiser, it would be dangerous to permit athletes to compete without spikes in any given event then only those competitors with the appropriate footwear will be allowed to compete.
It should be noted that 6mm spikes are the maximum length permitted.
It is hoped that results will be received in time for them to be included in the School Sports Report next Wednesday.
