MORE than 200 jobs were today hanging in the balance at Pocklington's biggest employer.
Results of attempts to sell part of troubled Convergent Commun-ications are expected by the end of this week.
Rumours are rife that, whatever the outcome, job losses are expected at the telecommunications group, which has suspended trading its shares on the stock market.
Group directors are trying to avoid the company being put into liquidation as its bankers press for a deal to be finalised.
Convergent's new chief executive, Graham Darnell, insisted that the company, based at Blenheim House, in York Road, Pocklington, had not been sold.
"We are going to be working through the night to make sure a deal is done to end all this fear and uncertainty.
"There's a lot of emotions flying around the building at the moment," he said.
Convergent, he said, was talking to three interested parties, including Warwickshire-based Project Telecom, some of whom were interested in buying just part of the business.
