FULL-BACK Chris Smith is a doubt for Sunday's away day at Chorley Lynx when York City Knights will be looking to make it five wins in a row.
Smith jarred his knee in the last minute of last weekend's 33-14 victory at Workington Town as he dived to deny winger Graeme Lewthwaite a try.
Smith hobbled off and his knee was heavily bandaged after the game, although swelling had prevented an immediate diagnosis at the time.
Knights coach Paul Broadbent told the Evening Press he hoped to have a more definite idea of Smith's fitness at training tonight.
However, the former Great Britain prop admitted Smith was facing a race against time to make the trip to Chorley.
"He is still struggling with it at the moment and there is still some swelling," explained Broadbent.
"At this stage, it is just a case of 'wait and see' and we should have more of an idea at training tonight.
"If the swelling goes down and he is able to start running then he might have a chance of making it on Sunday but it is doubtful at the moment."
After making it four wins in a row with victory over Workington, Broadbent said he is keenly aware teams may now start to raise their game in an extra-effort to prick the York bubble.
"We have to be very conscious of the fact that we are now going to the be team people want to beat and we will need to be on top of our game," he said.
- Salford Reds have signed Wes Davies, 25, the former Wigan and Wales utility back from Orrell. Davies, the grandson of Wigan legend Billy Boston, has joined for the season.
