A YORK man was appearing in court today after a fight in a city street left a man with serious head injuries.
A local man in his 40s was taken to York Hospital and later transferred to Hull Royal Infirmary after an incident outside the newsagents in Dodsworth Avenue, at its junction with Saxon Place, at 7pm on Saturday.
A man in his 30s, also from York, was appearing before York Magistrates charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. The older man was initially released from hospital, but was due to return for an operation on his head injuries.
Police are appealing for witnesses, and believe a large group of people may have seen the incident, including some who were parked in cars near a take-away.
