VOLUNTEERS are needed to watch out for wildlife on the roads around York and North and East Yorkshire.
The call has come from conservation charity Mammals Trust UK, which wants people to join its latest Mammals On Roads Survey.
As part of efforts to conserve all mammals from small voles to large deer, the survey provides invaluable information for the assessment of long-term trends in mammal numbers. Volunteers are asked to record sightings of mammals, both dead and alive, on as many journeys as possible from July and September.
Valerie Keeble, trust chief executive, said: "As mammals in the UK continue to face threats such as disappearing habitats and toxic environments, it is essential for us to gain as much information as we can from these surveys in order to help them battle against diminishing numbers and possible loss."
Copies of the survey forms can be requested by calling 020 7498 5262 or they can be downloaded from the web at www.mtuk.org
