THIEVES rifled through the pockets of a man who was lying injured in a York street following an earlier assault - stealing his mobile phone and his wallet.
York police have blasted the thieves for taking advantage of an injured and vulnerable man.
The two incidents happened just before 4am yesterday as the victim walked home from a night out with friends.
A police spokesman said the man had been walking with friends, but was assaulted following an argument with one of the group.
He said: "He was left on the floor and this other group have come along and decided to rifle through his pockets and take his belongings."
An ambulance spokesman said a 26-year-old man was taken to York Hospital suffering from facial injuries.
