Cash was snatched from the till of Kwik Save in Beagle Ridge Drive, off Foxwood Lane, York, at about 3pm on Thursday.
The thief was described as white, about 5ft 7in tall, with short dark hair, wearing a black bomber-style jacket, black trousers and white trainers.
