WANTED - two ghostly guides to show people spooks at an historic haunted York house.
This unusual advert appeared in the situations vacant pages as the Treasurer's House, in Minster Yard, is planning to re-open its ghostly cellars.
Treasurer's House staff plan to throw open the doors to the creepy corridors - and need two people to show the public round.
Treasurer's House property manager Jane Whitehead said: "It is an unusual position. We are looking for two guides, who need to have good people and communication skills and a real interest in the history not just of Treasurer's House but of York as well. It wouldn't be a good job for people with claustrophobia, as you enter the cellars through quite a narrow tunnel."
The house and cellars, built on top of a Roman road, were the scene of one of York's most famous spooky happenings.
In 1953, apprentice plumber Harry Martindale was working in the cellars when he heard a trumpet sounding.
He then saw a number of Roman soldiers walking through the cellar wall.
Jane said: "Unless he had done a lot of detailed research into the soldiers that belonged to that section of the Roman army he could not have known the level of detail he used to describe the soldiers he saw."
Another ghostly going on said to happen in the house takes place in the tapestry room, scene of a centuries-old murder.
"Some people experience a strange atmosphere in there," Jane added.
The cellars are currently closed for refurbishment work to prepare them for public opening. The date when they will open has yet to be fixed.
