TAMSIN BARNES shows her picture of a beauty spot in East Yorkshire that has gone on display in London as part of a national protest about modern art.
Tamsin, 19, of St Mary's Close, East Cottingwith, painted the scene of Filey Brigg while she was an A-level art student at The Mount, York. She decided to enter the piece in the recent Daily Mail's Not The Turner Prize competition, which was designed to promote figurative art rather than the abstract art which snatches the headlines every year by winning the Turner Prize.
A drama student at Hull University, Tamsin was surprised and delighted when her painting was selected out of 10,000 entries to be displayed at The Mall Galleries in London. Her work was among only 400 pieces, many by professional artists, which were exhibited as part of the competition.
Her proud mother, Sarah, said: "I was really pleased and excited for her. It's a great achievement.
"She loves the sea and is very inspired by it."
