THE Hunters York and District Senior League's Under-21 team had a comfortable victory over the Doncaster League at Scholes Cricket Club in the second round of the White Rose Trophy and will now travel to play the Halifax League in the semi-final on Sunday, July 13.
The York side played with only ten men due to their opening batsman David Morris being stuck in traffic on the A64 which prevented him making the journey from Scarborough to the outskirts of Sheffield.
The Doncaster League batted first and were given a sound start by Anthony Cater and Jonathan Ring, who was playing on his own ground. The Scholes man had made 22 when Chris Pitts had him stumped by Hull Zingari's Nick Biggs to end an opening stand of 57 in the 20th over.
Cater was then joined by fellow Eden Grove player A Kundra and the pair moved to 84 before the latter was bowled by Peter Richardson after making just four runs in 25 minutes. Richardson also ended Cater's innings when he was caught at mid-off by Gary Blackburn having made 46 in 113 minutes, and the Duncombe Park quickie blew away the middle order to return impressive figures of 6-32.
The home side's total was boosted by a last-wicket stand of 21 but Pitts, who plays for Carlton Towers, with 2-24, and Osbaldwick-based skipper Chris Oldfield, with 2-17, helped to end the resistance at 126 with ten of the 50 overs unused.
York openers Anthony Knowles (Hull Zingari) and Heworth's Richard Bowling took full advantage of some wayward bowling to crack 22 off the first two overs but both then fell to Hasham Amjad (2-25), as York moved to 43-2 in just six overs.
Acomb's Matthew Dickinson was joined by Ripon's Gary Blackburn in a free-scoring partnership which took York to an eight-wicket victory inside 22 overs. Blackburn made 39no off 45 balls while Dickinson's unbeaten 35 came off 54 balls.
