I HOPE whoever was on the planning committee for the apartment development in St Martin's Lane is not on the committee for the Coppergate scheme.
The new flats are an eyesore. St. Martin's Lane was a lovely, quiet little cobbled thoroughfare - an oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle.
In fact The Ackhorne advertised itself as "an oasis off Micklegate" - the pub itself still is, thanks to its manager Jack Merry, but St Martin's Lane has been ruined. Is someone determined to take the charm of York away completely? God forbid that the Coppergate development goes through.
David Bell,
Hull Road, York.
