Yorkshire Phoenix were hoping New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming will finally make his mark for his adopted county in the televised Roses showdown at Old Trafford later today in the Twenty20 Cup.
Fleming has flopped badly in his two Twenty20 matches since joining Yorkshire last weekend. He was out first ball to Dominic Cork on his debut against Derbyshire Scorpions at Headingley and on Monday he was dismissed for four off the second legitimate ball he faced from Leicestershire Fox's Charlie Dagnall.
While Fleming struggled, however, Indian Yuvraj Singh showed off his burgeoning talents by being Yorkshire's top-scorer in both matches.
Yorkshire will choose from the same side which lost at Grace Road, plus acting captain Matthew Wood who missed out in that game because of a hand injury.
If Wood returns it could be at the expense of Gavin Hamilton who made his long awaited return against Leicestershire but played solely as a batsman and was out first ball.
This is a game which both Yorkshire and Lancashire Lightning need to win because the losers will find their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals and final on July 19 at Trent Bridge slipping away.
Yorkshire have played two matches and won one while Lancashire lost to Nottinghamshire in their only game.
The clash takes on additional significance because it is the only Roses battle of the summer, the two sides now being in different divisions in both the Championship and National League.
It had been arranged for Yorkshire to play Lancashire at the Scarborough Cricket Festival on Sunday, August 10, but this match has now been scrapped because of Lancashire's appearance in the semi-finals of the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy.
Yorkshire Phoenix (v Lancashire Lightning) from: Fleming, Wood, Lumb, Yuvraj, White, Hamilton, Blakey, Bresnan, Gray, Sidebottom, Silverwood, Swanepoel.
