Internet buffs are to benefit from a hi-tech crime-busting solution for recurring vandalism and disorder problems at a North Yorkshire community centre.
Officers and residents in Knaresborough are to unveil a new CCTV monitoring system at the town's community centre.
The installation of the facility has enabled computer users to access the internet for free, as a result of a sponsored broadband connection. It allows any authorised person to check the security of the building and surrounding area at any time, from a remote computer via the internet.
PC Colin Rutherford, who masterminded the system, said: "The success of this project is an example of how well the new community beat officers can become an integral part of their communities, and also shows how they can dedicate their time to offer support in order to resolve many problems for the long-term."
He added that basic computer skills classes had already begun and that youngsters were being encouraged to set up a website for the centre.
North Yorkshire's Chief Constable, Della Cannings, and Knaresborough's mayor, June Cook, will open the NTL Broadband Suite on Friday, June 27.
