The first Minster Inn chess tournament was won by Owen Robson (Shepherds), who took first place with an impressive 100 per cent record.
Pre-tournament favourite Peter Cloudsdale (RI) started well with a decisive win against Les Bresnen (Minster Inn) in the first round but lost a tight second round game to Steve Whitehead (Minster Inn).
The juniors started to come through in the later rounds with both Paul Barber (RI) and Tom Anderson (Minster Inn) finishing with three points out of a possible four.
However, at the start of the final round only Paul Anderson (Minster Inn) and Robson could win the tournament and they were drawn to play each other.
The result was an exciting win for Robson.
A total of 17 players took part and the next tournament will be held in September.
