Selby Warriors Under-10s finally had something to celebrate thanks to a fine 32-28 win over Headingley Hawks.
After eight months of hard work by the coaching staff and players, the youngsters got their first victory in the last match of their first season.
Throughout the losing spell, the coaches stuck to the principles of using a first receiver - something few of their rivals do - and this will stand the players in good stead.
In a see-saw game, powerful prop Kurt Cookson got the ball rolling with a storming run from half way. Man of the match James Gooding scored a brace, including the try of the match with a waltzing run from his own line, while on-form Arron Sharp and Daniel Bate also crossed and Connor Smith got the winner with his first try.
Sharp, Bate, Kurt Cookson and Sealius Price, who also topped the tackle count, added goals. Michael Carse was most improved player.
