TRAFFIC restrictions on Walmgate will continue as council engineers battle to repair a hole on the street.
The hole, which was thought to be a collapsed storm water pipe, has kept motorists from travelling on one lane of the road between the junction of Hope Street and Margaret Street.
Peter Evely, City of York Council's highways chief, had hoped the hole would be repaired on Friday, but today he said that the restrictions were likely to continue for a little while longer.
This was because engineers had found new problems in the hole and are evaluating new ways to solve the problem.
Mr Evely said: "We started filling it in and found something else. We are carrying on with further investigations. The traffic restrictions will remain in place. They are not causing any problems."
