CITY of York Council's free newspaper is likely to be axed as part of an overhaul of the communications department.
During the election campaign, the Liberal Democrats said they would review the communications strategy to save money.
Leader of the council Steve Galloway said: "We are looking for ways to inject money into the front line services such as crime and the local environment.
"The majority of people are saying they want more money for things such as keeping the streets clean and are prepared to sacrifice this."
A decision on the issue will be made in the autumn. If it is axed, factual information such as rubbish collections will be included in a newsletter.
Mr Galloway said the axing of the paper would affect the number of posts available in the communications department, but because of present vacancies would not affect individuals' jobs.
