PLANS to replace a derelict toilet block with a "superloo" on a busy pedestrian route into York have moved a step closer.
The toilets, on the footpath between the St John Street car park and Lord Mayor's Walk, have been derelict for a number of years.
Members of City of York Council's planning and environment scrutiny board have now given six months for someone to come forward and buy the site.
They would then use the proceeds to provide a "superloo" in the adjacent car park.
If no buyer is found, then the council intends to demolish the building and re-landscape the area to offer an "open vista" and install a "superloo" in the car park.
The area has become a meeting point for drug users and street drinkers.
