THE Evening Press has a new editor.
He is Kevin Booth, who has been editor of the Peterborough Evening Telegraph for the past three years and was formerly a deputy editor of the Bristol Evening Post. He replaces Liz Page, who earlier this year became Publisher of York & County Press.
Mr Booth, 45, will take over at the Evening Press in September. His overall responsibilities will also include the Star series, the website www.thisisyork.co.uk and numerous niche publications, including the YO1 magazine.
Mrs Page said today that competition for the editor's post had been intense, with some excellent candidates.
"But Kevin edged ahead of the rest. He is an experienced evening paper editor who has lots of ideas for developing the Evening Press, whilst retaining its community focus.
"We look forward to welcoming him to York. The city is changing rapidly and it is important that our products develop to meet the needs of the readers. I am sure Kevin will do a first-class job."
