INVESTIGATIONS are taking place into what has caused a hole to appear in a York street.
The water board and City of York Council believe a collapsed sewer in Walmgate could have led to a dent in the road.
Peter Evely, the council's head of highway regulation, said a decision would be made today about which course of action to take.
He said: "The main issue is deciding what the problem is and then mobilising the right crew to deal with it.
"Although it may not appear on the surface like we're doing anything, we're working hard to find out what the problem is."
A diversion was operating in Hope Street for incoming traffic.
