THE Jorvik Warrior, Jamie Warters is eyeing an all-action home-coming party, with his former sparring partner Denzil Browne being touted as a possible opponent.
Talks are ongoing between Warters' manager/trainer Steve Pollard and promoter Colin Cain to stage a bout in the city either in July or September, with the York cruiserweight topping the bill.
A number of options are open to the Warters' camp in regards of opponents, however the bait of the Central Area crown has seen Browne enter the reckoning as a serious contender.
As the Evening Press revealed, Browne, who has his own following in the city after he fought out of Henry Wharton's Hard 'N' Fast stable, is keen to announce his return to the ring two years after he took the Central title.
And Warters, who is raring to get back into the ring following his controversial draw with Phil Day back in April, would love to take on the veteran Browne.
"It is great that Denzil wants this fight, the hype and build up is good for the sport," Warters told the Evening Press. "I used to spar with him when I was 17. Although I was just a kid and an amateur I still acquitted myself well, but that was back then. at 17.
"I've love to get it on now... I'd fight him in his bedroom, with his mum as the referee if it came to it."
Browne had tried riling Warters, by claiming he was the true holder of the 'Warrior' tag, however, 'Jorvik' has refused to be drawn into a war of words.
"If he wants to say that then fine, I'm not going to get drawn into that sort of game," said Warters. "If he wants an argument outside the ring then I'll leave that to Steve.
"I've a lot of respect for him as he is a good fighter. He has got a good gym behind him and is working with some good people, but so am I."
In the meantime, Warters is determined to keep in the best possible shape.
"I'm just keeping things ticking over," he added. "I'm training across in Hull and going to Fitness First. I'm just keeping busy. I am hoping to have three or four fights before the end of the year, but that will be down to Steve.
"You never know what is around the corner and I am determined to make sure that I'm in the best shape possible should a fight on another show happen. If not, we are looking at end of July or in September, with Colin and Steve working together to bring it to York."
Vitali Klitschko has less than two weeks to prepare himself for a shot at Lennox Lewis' world titles but his team are confident he can deliver.
The Ukrainian has confirmed as the Briton's next opponent, replacing Kirk Johnson in a fight organised for June 21 in Los Angeles.
Klitschko had been due to take on American Cedrick Boswell on the Staples Center undercard on that night but now steps up to fight for Lewis' WBC and IBO belts after Johnson withdrew through injury.
