AS one door closes, another one opens. While the row over the proposed closure of the Minster library continues, the council is proposing to extend the opening hours of York Central Library. It is good to see that the library ethos is still cherished in some quarters.
Already plans for a caf in the Museum Street institution have been approved. Now it is set to open on a Sunday.
This welcome extension of consumer choice will allow residents to enjoy a steamy cappuccino with Jackie Collins or a diet cola with Dr Atkins, seven days a week. Book lovers across York will benefit from the library's extended shelf life.
