I CALLED at York Asda to buy cigarettes on my motorbike. I walked past the meet-and-greeter who said nothing about the fact that I was wearing my crash helmet.
When it was my turn to be served, I was told that I had to remove my helmet, which I did. I wear a balaclava under my helmet: the assistant then refused to serve me because they couldn't see my face.
I asked for the manager, who came but only knew the words: "It's Asda's rule." I explained if I filled up with petrol at his store, I wouldn't have to remove my helmet to pay; and that there were no signs asking motorcyclists to remove helmets as some businesses have, and which I comply with.
No joy from Asda so over to Sainsbury's. Again no signs about helmet removal so on it stays, but no problem getting served. One new Sainsbury's customer, one ex-Asda customer.
I won't be back. Thanks Asda for making me feel like a criminal.
