RESPECT to The Bluetones for somehow surviving when it seemed they had disappeared.
The towering Slight Return seems so long ago now, and, sadly, has started to sound dated. Quality singles came after that, but for many The Bluetones will now be The Who?tones. Luxembourg won't thrust them to global stardom, and probably won't see a dramatic re-launch on to the domestic scene. It's too much of a slow burner for that but the record will please Bluetones diehards and catch the ear of anyone who hears it without knowing the band. I Love The City talks about the delights of urban life, while Never Going Nowhere details the pain of a relationship break-up. The Bluetones' skill was always looking at life's darker underbelly; long may it, and the band, remain.
