HULL KR half-back Jimmy Walker has held preliminary talks with York City Knights about a move to Huntington Stadium - but he's been told no starting berth would be guaranteed.
Walker has not been able to hold down a regular spot at New Craven Park and has been linked with a move elsewhere, with the Knights and his former club, Doncaster Dragons, in the reckoning.
Knights chief executive Steve Ferres has confirmed he has spoken to Walker but said he would face a fight to get into the side because of the form of current half-backs Danny Brough and Scott Rhodes, while the likes of Trevor Krause, Mark Cain and Darren Callaghan could also wear six or seven.
"Jimmy Walker has been in touch and he's interested in coming here," Ferres told the Evening Press.
"We are interested in having him on board but we've said the situation is that our half-backs at this moment in time have been performing excellently and we're delighted with both of them. The way they're playing, he will have a fight to force his way into the side."
Walker scored two tries for Hull KR when the Robins defeated York 36-26 in the Knights' first-ever match at Huntington Stadium.
"It would be good to have him here and improve competition for places, but we've got cover for those positions and we will let him make his own decision," said Ferres.
