SIX months after being knocked down in a hit-and-run incident which shocked York, schoolgirl Katie Scales has fully recovered from her injuries.
Katie, 12, from Haxby, crossed the pelican crossing in Blossom Street today, on her way to and from All Saints' School, unaware it was exactly half a year since a black Fiat Punto went through a red light there and struck her.
However, her mother Sarah said Katie was always extra careful when using such crossings. "She always double-checks that the traffic has stopped, even if there is a green man."
She said Katie, who suffered serious injuries, including a broken jaw, had made a good physical recovery and she remained a bubbly child, while slightly changed by her experiences.
A computer bought by Evening Press readers as a special Christmas present to Katie last December is still being well-used by her.
Sarah said she used it for homework but also to speak to her friends on a restricted access chatline.
Police launched a major investigation after the incident but never found the driver. They have said that the case remains open and the motorist could still be caught one day if, for example, they received a vital tip-off from someone aware who was responsible.
