YORK athletes qualified for the Yorkshire Championships by winning their events at the npower Active Disport athletics meeting at Huntington Stadium.
Pupils from Galtres School and Fulford Cross School took part in the regional event for people with learning disabilities.
The York athletes who go through to the Yorkshire Championships at South Leeds Stadium on June 12 included Galtres School pupils 16-year-old Hannah Jaques, who won gold in the over-15 50 metres sprint and the long jump, and 15-year-old Rosanna Vilarrubi, who won the over-15 softball throw.
Gemma D'Elia, 15, came fourth in the over-15 50m sprint, while 16-year-old Lauren McGill was third in the over-15 softball throwing competition.
Fulford Cross pupils also had their share of success, 14-year-old Nicola Austin winning the under-15 standing long jump, and 13-year-old Claire Davy coming second in the same event.
Kevin Rodgers, npower's community relations manager for the Yorkshire region, said: "The key aim of our npower Active programme of events, run by the Federation of Disability Sports and supported by Sportsmatch, is to make sport more accessible for people with disabilities.
"Disport athletics gives young people the chance to have a go even if they've never tried it before, allowing them to develop their talents and abilities, which they may be unable to do otherwise."
